Field Mapping
Field Mapping Screen
There are a lot of features available on the field mapping screen. The primary feature is to map one field to another. On the left-hand side of the screen is a list of the fields in Quik! (column 1) and their corresponding mapped field to the database (column 2). On the right-hand side of the screen is a list of the fields available from the database (column 1) and a sample client's data (column 2).
To Map Fields
Either:
- Click the Quik! field on the left and then double-click the database field on the right.
- Click and hold the database field on the right and DRAG it to the corresponding Quik! field on the left.
To Clear A Mapped Field
To clear a field mapping double-click the Quik! field name in the left-hand box.
To Reset Field Mappings
If you made changes to the mapping that you want to cancel without closing the screen, you can click the Reset button and all your changes will be dropped and the mapping will be restored to what it was when you loaded this page.
To Restore The "Factory" Default Mapping
Quik! has a default mapping for each data source ("Factory" Default). If you wish to restore the default mapping, click the Defaults button. If you're not happy with the defaults and want to restore your last saved settings, click the Reset button or click Cancel without saving your changes.
To Save A Data Map
Once you modify your field mapping, you can save the mapping as a file that can be shared with other users on other PCs and used to map additional data source connections that have the same field structure. For example, if you export data from another system and create one export file per advisor, then you only need map the first file, save the map and then load the map for the other files when you create their connections.
To save your map, click the Save Map button and follow the prompts to save your mapping file. If you intend to share the map with other users on other PCs, consider saving the file to a network drive location. By default the file is saved in the following location: C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\QuikFormsLibrary\System\UserDefinedMaps*.map
To Load A Data Map
If you save a data map to make mapping fields for your datasource(s) easier, then you can load the data map by clicking the Load Map button and selecting your saved data map.
To See A Different Client Record
When mapping fields it may be helpful to see what data is actually being stored in a given database field. If the client record that is currently displayed doesn't fill the data for a particular field, change the record to a different client. You can change the displayed client by either moving the slider bar or selecting a specific client from the drop-down list.
To Search For Fields
While mapping fields it may be easier to do the mapping by searching for specific fields in either the Quik! Field List or the Data Source Field List. Simply type in a search word and click the Search button. You can also sort on any of the columns. Once you're done searching, clear the keyword box and click search again. NOTE: DON'T CLICK RESET. If you click the Reset button any fields you just mapped will be cleared.
To save your data mapping changes, click the Save button. Or to close the screen without saving anything, click the Cancel button. Clicking "Cancel" will prompt you to save your changes (in case you clicked Cancel by mistake).
